Spiritual Warfare

Several years ago, a friend introduced me to Christian fiction author, Frank Peretti.  With enthusiasm, I gobbled up “This Present Darkness” and “Piercing the Darkness.”  The author penned these two novels with a goal of vividly portraying the spiritual warfare raging around us.  Drawing upon the teachings of Scripture, Mr. Peretti crafted believable stories, reminding me once again that

“we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

The Bible and Spiritual Warfare

The Bible, the Sword of the Spirit

This election cycle, the stakes are high.  America faces the proposition of electing a social and fiscal conservative President in presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney or re-electing a President who desires to advance his mission of fundamentally transforming the United States of America.  A flagging economy, 8.3% unemployment, and Obamacare ought to give all Americans pause before casting another ballot for President Obama, but according to polling data, Romney and Obama forge down the campaign trail in a virtual dead heat.  Obviously, the real issue is not the economy…

No Longer Your Grandfather’s Democrat Party

Many people support a democrat candidate because of generational tradition.  In fact, decades ago only a minutiae of difference existed between the Republican and Democratic parties.  Today’s Democrats differ from those of yesteryear, the contrast similar to daylight and darkness.  The Democrat platform espouses the following destructive ideologies:  abortion on demand, gay marriage, and amnesty for illegals.  Even more currently, the Obama administration rammed an unconstitutional and coercive healthcare plan down the collective throat of America, championed measures to let non-citizens vote, and sued Arizona for enforcing immigration law.  Instead of breeding a culture of godly principles, the current Democratic party propagates dogma threatening to spin the Founding Fathers in their graves.  No, this is not your grandfather’s Democratic party.

Is the real problem spiritual?

America’s real enemy does not live in the White House, but occupies the hearts of men hell-bent on removing every visage of God from American culture.  Even leaders professing Christianity cater to political correctness over Biblical truth, cowering to political action groups waving campaign dollars.  America continues to listen to the question first raised in the Garden of Eden.  “Did God really say….?” and then waffling on abiding by the answers found within the Scriptures.

No, the real problem is not Democrat or Republican, but that we’ve chosen to adopt our own morals and principles even if counter to the Word of God.  So, “we wrestle not against flesh and blood,” and that means our battle for the collective soul of America hinges not only on people taking a stand, but initiating the stand from a kneeling position.

America desperately needs revival.  Such a spiritual awakening comes not from adopting the platform of a certain political party but from Christians renewing their commitment to Christ.  God shares the necessary ingredients for a nation to be blessed by His Almighty Hand:

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (II Chronicles 7:14)

America, bless God….

I recently listened to an Adrian Rodgers podcast on this very subject. He made the point that we keep expecting revival to come through the government or through society. If this will just change or that will go right or this group will support us, THEN everything will be all right. But the Bible doesn’t say that. It says “If MY people” meaning that we must initiate any revival we want to see by humbling ourselves, repenting of our sins, and crying out to God for His intervention, not the President’s. Right on Bryan!

Thank you, Bryan. Sometimes, with all we see and hear, it almost feels as if the enemy is winning on every side. I pray you will be protected as you stand strong for the Bible.

  3. Susan says:

Amen! In our collective complacency we have let the devil move in. We must stand strong in our Biblical convictions, even if it means being un-popular and politically incorrect. Just going with the flow will lead our nation and her citizens to destruction.

    Hi Bryan,

I was looking at old posts on my blog and stumbled upon a comment you left more than a year ago and decided to pay you a visit. You are correct that this election isn’t about democrat vs. republican as much as many would like to think it is. We are in a spiritual war of ever-increasong proportions. The world is desperately trying to take God out of the picture, and it seems as though they are succeeding.

As much as I am so proud that America finally has an African American president, I must say that I disagree with President Obama’s stance on gay marriage and abortion. His views go against scripture. He says he’s a Christian but how can he say he’s a Christian and be in favor of these immoral issues? Just don’t understand it. And Mitt Romney is a Mormon, which means he doesn’t share fundamental Christian beliefs and values. These two candidates leave much to be desired when it comes to adherence to the wonderful Word of God true Christians love and adore.

    Blessings,
    Judy
